Involvement in sports volunteering is not only a way to improve mental health by increasing a sense of appreciation or respect, but it also allows participants to take on an individual challenge, meet new people, or gain specific knowledge. The aim of this study was to analyze selected motivations of students from the University of Physical Education in Krakow to get involved in sports volunteering during the 2023 European Games organized in their city and verifying them in terms of gender, age, previous volunteering experience, and pursuing a career. A total of 535 students took part in the survey, of whom 52.71% (282) were female, and 47.29% (253) were male. Selected motivation statements were indicated by respondents through a 5-point Likert scale. The results of the completed study confirmed that pursuing a professional career alongside studies and previous experience in sports volunteering had an impact on undertaking sports volunteering (F = 11.754; r = 0.674; p = 0.003 and F = 10.241; r = 0.611; p = 0.002). The obtained research results may be important for sports psychologists and organizers of sports events in the context of recruiting volunteers or improving the process of managing sports volunteering.

Based on the ideas of service-learning theory and social capital theory, the study examines the role that educational programmes play in encouraging students to engage in volunteer work for sustainable development in Saudi Arabia. A total of 251 usable responses were gathered through an online survey. The conceptual framework for the study was established to analyse direct and indirect impacts. The study used partial-least-squares–structural equation modelling to estimate the inter-construct correlations that exist among the postulated variables and ran bootstrapping to examine the potential for causality in the research hypotheses. The impact of service work for sustainable development is broken down into two categories: service learning and social capital. The study has demonstrated that the antecedents of social capital theory, such as norms and values (β = 0.0293) and social support (β = 0.0001), exert a strong and positive influence on volunteering work in Saudi Arabia, whereas the antecedents of service-learning theory, such as service activities (β = 0.2288), learning outcomes (β = 0.9879), social ties/connections (β = 0.1167) and community engagement (β = 0.1601), have little or nothing to do with influencing volunteering work. This indicates that for volunteering to become accepted by society, policymakers need to give volunteers work that is rewarding by nature and focused on norms and values (NV) and social support (SS). The authors of this article propose a new strategy for managing knowledge in future volunteer activities due to the dearth of empirical research on the integration of service-learning theory and social capital theory in volunteering for sustainable development.

This study aims to explore the role of digital education in the development of skills and employability for engineering students through researching the role of big data analytics courses. The empirical study proposes the hypothesis that both soft and hard skills have positive effects on human capital, individual attributes, and the career development dimensions of engineering students. This is achieved through constructing a framework of three dimensions of engineering students’ employability and two competency development dimensions of big data analytics courses. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 155 college engineering students and a structural equation model (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses. The results found that courses on big data analytics have a positive impact on engineering students’ abilities in both hard skills (p < 0.01) and soft skills (p < 0.001) dimensions, while soft skills have a more significant impact on engineering students’ employability. The study has practical and theoretical implications that further enriches the knowledge base on engineering education and broadens our understanding of the role of digitalization in enhancing the skills and employability of engineering students.
