Volumetric stability of autogenous bone graft with mandibular body bone: cone-beam computed tomography and three-dimensional reconstruction analysis

Abstract: ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to estimate the volumetric change of augmented autobone harvested from mandibular body cortical bone, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and three-dimensional reconstruction. In addition, the clinical success of dental implants placed 4 to 6 months after bone grafting was also evaluated.Materials and MethodsNinety-five patients (48 men and 47 women) aged 19 to 72 years were included in this study. A total of 128 graft sites were evaluated. The graft sites were di… Show more

“…trauma, tumor and periodontal disease). Autologous bone transplantation is the gold standard for the repair of large area of bone defects [ 1 , 2 ]; however, surgical grafting causes a new wound on the donor site, which leads to secondary trauma and pain to the patient. Rejection and secondary infection in allograft transplantation induces bone graft failure [ 3 , 4 ].…”

“…The results of this study show that, respecting certain limits, it is possible to obtain an autogenous bone block that allows a small reconstruction of the alveolar process (Sakkas et al, 2017). Safety margins used in the osteotomy must be included to reduce the risk of neurosensory injuries that are the main alterations in bone graft removal in this sector (Lee & Kim, 2015).…”

“…Implant placement was generally performed after 4 to 6 months of healing period (Fig. 1) [8]. After the maxilla and mandible had 5–6 and 3–4 months of submerged period, respectively, ISQ values were examined prior to loading.
