“…Other studies have also assessed the prognostic value of MTV or TLG in patients with BC with some partially controversial results: Kim et al 9 and Hyun et al 11 found significance on univariate analysis when correlating OS or disease-free survival with MTV 2.5 , which eventually was found to fail to predict survival on multivariate analysis in patients with early-stage BC. Nakajima et al 8 and Son et al 10 proved that MTV 40% predicted long-term survival in patients with stage II BC or those with ductal carcinoma. Unlike previous studies, in which 3.6% to 49% of the patients studied were diagnosed with T1 primary tumors, the current study excluded these patients to minimize the bias from limited spatial resolution and partial volume effects of PET/CT.…”

“…Growing evidence suggests that MTV and TLG may have prognostic value in several solid tumors . However, the use of these volumetric metabolic parameters in the prognosis of BC remains limited and the results are somewhat controversial, and criteria for these parameters have yet to be established …”

“…Recently, metabolic tumor burden, such as metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), which reflects both tumor volume and glycolysis, have been widely used and reported in FDG‐PET/CT studies . However, in most previous studies, metabolic tumor burden obtained from a single‐phase study has been used, and a few studies have applied such parameters calculated using a dual‐time‐point study …”

“…The tumor node metastasis (TNM) staging system is considered the most important prognostic tool [4], but TNM staging does not correspond to biological aggressiveness and fails to explain the wide variation of the outcomes in patients within the same stage [5]. Various techniques including all kinds of molecular imaging had been developed to predict the tumor response to therapy.…”
