Voltammetric Determination of Rosmarinic Acid on Chitosan/Carbon Nanotube Composite-Modified Carbon Paste Electrode Covered with DNA

Abstract: The electrochemical behavior of rosmarinic acid at the surface of a DNA-coated electrode was investigated using square-wave stripping voltammetry. The voltammetric studies showed that rosmarinic acid is oxidized in two successive pH-dependent steps each with the transfer of two electrons and two protons. These oxidations correspond to two electroactive catechol groups. Moreover, strong interaction between the immobilized DNA and rosmarinic acid accumulates rosmarinic acid on the electrode surface resulting in … Show more

“…The caffeic acid part is formed only from phenylalanine and the 3,4-dihydroxyphenyllactic acid only from tyrosine. [26][27][28] Rosmariic acid is a yellowish-white crystalline powder with a 174°C melting point, 29 an optical rotation of 140°, and D-(+) = (R)-(+) absolute configuration at the chiral center. 30 The compound is more soluble in most organic solvents, but less soluble in water.…”

“…The prominent side of this novel method is its ability to simultaneously determine both RA and PCA with electrochemical technique; however, some electrodes have yielded more sensitivity, i. e., a lower detection limit, for individual analyte determination than that of this study. For instance, pretreated GCE , chitosan/carbon nanotube‐modified carbon paste electrode covered with DNA electrode , and pencil graphite electrode have been used in previous studies for individual RA determination with high sensitivity. However, the GCE/PoPD/Pt achieved a more sensitive RA detection than the system of carbon screen‐printed electrode modified with laccase‐immobilized indium tin oxide nanoparticles .…”

“…An electrochemical sensor based on a chitosan/carbon nanotube composite-modified carbon paste electrode covered with DNA has been prepared for the detection of rosmarinic acid (RA) [63]. More precisely, the bulk of a carbon paste electrode was modified with carbon nanotubes and chitosan and then the surface of the obtained electrode was covered with DNA.…”
