Voltage Modulated DPC Strategy of DFIG Using Extended Power Theory under Unbalanced Grid Voltage Conditions

Abstract: This paper develops a voltage modulated direct power control (VM-DPC) strategy of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) using extended power theory under unbalanced grid voltage conditions. By introducing the modulated voltage of the active and reactive powers and the non-linear VM controller, the proposed VM-DPC strategy enables the generator dynamics to change from the time-varying differential equations into the time-invariant ones. Then, in order to deal with the voltage unbalance, three available power … Show more

“…In [21] it is presented a decoupled DARPC technique of the ASG connected to an unbalanced power grid, executed in an orthogonal stationary reference frame related to the stator side. In [22], the voltage modulated DARPC method (VM-DARPC) was proposed to control the ASG-based wind turbines. To obtain better system performance, an integral SMC technique-based DARPC method is proposed for three-level neutral-point-clamped (3L-NPC) converters [23].…”

“…In Table 2, we present a comparative summary of the two types of DARPC techniques used in this work. Figures [21][22][23], illustrate the zooms on the stator active power, electromagnetic torque and current of the GADA. From these figures, it can be seen that the undulations at these curves are always minimized for the TSC-DARPC with NMSVM technique compared to DARPC with PI controllers.…”

“…To remedy the aforementioned problems with high control performance and lower computational burden under voltage distortion and unbalanced conditions, several current control methods in the dq-frame without synchronization method and Park transformation have been proposed in recent literature. These methods include combined VOC and DPC (VOC-DPC) method in dq-frame based on instantaneous power method concepts [15], [16] and nonlinear observed grid-phase based VOC method [17].…”

“…Other current control strategies in the dq-frame without a synchronization method have been proposed, which have better control performance and dynamic responses under grid voltage distortion conditions. The VOC strategy based on coordinate transformation for three-phase AC/DC converters [37], the VOC-based DPC for GC-VSIs [23], and the VOC-based Grid Voltage-Modulated (GVM-VOC) for VSIs and DFIG [38,39] are some examples. These control strategies based on both DPC and traditional VOC concepts provide a linearly time-invariant system in the dq0frame based on the instantaneous active and reactive powers theory, while having the same properties and control circuit structure as the traditional VOC when the grid voltage phase angle is correctly detected.…”
