Voltage Control for a Loop Distribution System with Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract: Abstract. This paper describes and verifies a voltage control for a loop distribution system. The proposed method adopts SCADA system based on voltage data from IT switches, which are sectionalizing switches with sensor installed at 6.6kV distribution line. The proposed voltage control combines centralized control of a LRT and autonomous control of decentrally-allocated RESs. The tap change control of LRT takes the major role of the proposed voltage control. It is the extended type of LDC method which is gener… Show more

“…Recently, various methods have been proposed to relieve such voltage rise by introducing some level of cooperation among the devices in the system through communication [3], [4], [7], [15], [23]. In general, there are two elements that contribute to these methods.…”

“…In Refs. [14][15][16], an optimal control method considering line loss and node voltage for the loop distribution system was studied, which could achieve the optimal goal by suppressing the loop current via UPFC. On this basis, the approach of controlling loop current and reactive current together by UPFC was presented to further lower the power loss [17].…”

“…Because of lacking effective power control measures in the traditional distribution system, the circulating power flow during the closed-loop operation with dual-sources, would cause the power distribution unbalanced , even reverse power flow [6] [7] .The technique of Flexible AC Transmission System(FACTS), especially Unified Power Flow Controller(UPFC), can effectively control the reasonable distribution of power flow and improve the stability and reliability of the system [8] [9] . The research has been mainly focused on the application of transmission system. The application bottlenecks of UPFC in the distribution network is not the technology but the economy of apparatus [10] [11] . Combining the dispatching request of power flow with the economy of UPFC apparatus, this paper presents an optimal power flow control method of the closed loop distribution network based on the minimum of the UPFC capacity.…”
