Volatile Compounds and Antioxidant and Antifungal Activity of Bud and Needle Extracts from Three Populations of Pinus mugo Turra Growing in Romania

Abstract: Pinus mugo Turra is a shrub-like conifer with multiple healing properties. P. mugo extracts are rich in active ingredients such as volatile compounds, tannin, higher alcohols, vitamins, and minerals. In this study, we identified and quantified the secondary metabolites from buds and needles of P. mugo harvested from three different mountain areas in Romania. The main volatile compounds contained in the extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, and the most significant were pi… Show more

“…Physical Parameters during Storage Klinta Karklina, Liene Ozola makes up 5.66-8.44% (Popescu et al, 2022), which is less compared to pine cone syrup with white sugar (23.0%). According to research data of Tananaki et al (2022), the dominant compound is octane 21.54%; this compound was not detected in any of the studied products.…”

“…To determine total flavonoid contents, we used an adapted colorimetric method 63 by homogenizing 1 mL extract (1mg/mL concentration) with 0.5 mL of 5% NaNO 2 . The samples were incubated at room temperature for 5 minutes, then we added 0.5 mL of 10% AlCl 3 ⋅6H 2 O.…”

“…We used a slightly modified HPLC method 63 to identify valuable phenolic compounds in tarragon extracts with an Agilent 1200 device (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA) equipped with a quaternary pump, automatic injector, and PDS (photo diode system) detector. We set the device to read at the wavelengths: λ = 280 nm, 320 nm, 360 nm.…”
