“…Urinary retention (UR) is a condition in which untimely emptying of the bladder leads to retention of residual urine, characterized by autonomic dysuria and with or without pain in the bladder region. [ 1 , 2 ] In standardizing the terminology for lower urinary tract function, the Standardisation Sub-Committee of the International Continence Society (ICOS) has classified it into 2 categories: “acute urinary retention” and “chronic urinary retention.” [ 3 ] There are many causes of UR, including obstructive factors, neurogenic factors (sensory or motor nerve injury of the bladder), iatrogenic factors (pharmacological and non-pharmacological effects), infectious factors, and others.
