Void galaxies in the nearby Universe – I. Sample description

Abstract: The main goal of this work is to form a large, deep and representative sample of dwarf galaxies residing in voids of the nearby Universe. The formed sample is the basement for the comprehensive mass study of the galaxy content, their evolutionary status, clustering and dynamics with respect to their counterparts residing in more typical, denser regions and for study of void small-scale substructures. We present 25 voids over the entire sky within 25 Mpc from the Local Group. They are defined as groups of lumpe… Show more

“…Sparse filaments of dwarf galaxies can snake through regions devoid of bright galaxies. This phenomenon has particularly been noted by Lindner et al (1995) and Pustilnik et al (2019) within the volume that attracts our attention. The linkage of the region under consideration including the Local Void to very extensive voids has been claimed by .…”

“…UGC 5186 is also found in Void No. 12 (Pustilnik et al 2019). The galaxy has a distance estimate of 10.8 Mpc based on the velocity with a correction for local motion (Pustilnik & Tepliakova 2011) and an alternate distance of 8.3 Mpc based on the TF method (Tully et al 2013).…”

“…Major gravitational structures are labeled in the last panel and include the Local Void with an approximate centroid near SGX, SGY, SGZ coordinates (0,0,5), the Virgo Cluster(−5,16, 0), and the Leo Spur (5,5,−5). Leoncino lies in an under-dense region, catalogued as void number 12 inPustilnik et al (2019).…”

“…These latter studies are mainly based on observations of galaxy clustering via galaxy counts in redshift surveys. Other authors have also claimed the existence of smaller-scale local voids e.g Tully et al (2008Tully et al ( , 2016; Rizzi et al (2017); Pustilnik et al (2019).…”
