“…1,2 An example for a long-term injectable substance is calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse: Bioform Medical, Inc., San Mateo, CA). 3 Short-term duration injectable substances include collagen (Cymetra: Life-Cell, Branchburg, NJ), 4 autologous fat, 5 and hyaluronic acid (HA) 6,7 and are mainly used for temporary augmentation as they show an unpredictable effect. 8 The polysaccharide HA is a universal component of the extracellular matrix and part of the lamina propria of vocal folds.…”

“…The Gel is the carrier for hydroxylapatite and was designed for use in the larynx for temporary management of vocal fold paralysis. It has shown safety and efficacy in that arena [5,6]. For the second procedure, we recommend using hydroxylapatite, which has demonstrated efficacy for up to 2 years.…”

“…The vocal apparatus represents biomechanics at its finest, with significant contribution to voice quality from the cartilaginous superstructure to the microscopic mucosal lining. The diligent work of Rosen et al has brought the safety and efficacy of calcium hydroxylapatite to the forefront of injection laryngoplasty literature 9 . Despite continuing studies, investigators have conceded that it is too early to see the full ramifications of calcium hydroxylapatite in vocal fold augmentation.…”
