VMC Calculations of the Ground State Properties of Nuclear Matter

Abstract: A Variational Monte Carlo method (VMC) is described for the evaluation of the ground state properties of nuclear matter. Equilibrium properties of symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter are calculated by the described VMC method. The Urbana ν 14 potential is used for the nucleon-nucleon interactions in the calculations. Three-and more-body interactions are included as a density dependent potential term. Total, kinetic and potential energies per particle are obtained for nuclear and neutron matter. Pressur… Show more

“…The SKaan-U14 Skyrme parameter set is generated by fitting the energy results per nucleon, which contains 140 energy values obtained from Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) simulations, to the Skyrme energy density functional [16]. The obtained SKaan-U14 Skyrme parameter set is: t 0 = −424.75 MeV fm 3 , 6 , x 0 = 0.96, x 1 = 0, x 2 = 0, x 3 = −0.51 and α = 1.5. In our other study [9], the equation of state (EOS) of pure neutron matter (PNM) and neutronrich matter (NRM) for the realistic Urbana V 14 two nucleon interaction was obtained by using a Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) method.…”

“…The new Skyrme parameter set is generated by fitting the energy results per nucleon and contains 100 energy results obtained from VMC calculations to the Skyrme energy density functional. The new set obtained is: t 0 = −561.9948614 MeV fm 3 , t 1 = −0.185293342 MeV fm 5 , t 2 = 1931.494108 MeV fm 5 , t 3 = −5061.49105 MeV fm 6 , and x 0 = 51506.8365. Using these new parameters, we obtain saturation energy E 0 = −15.49 MeV at ρ 0 = 0.156 fm −3 (k F = 1.32 fm −1 ) for SNM.…”

“…Akmal et al have not calculated the properties of the ASNM directly, instead they have used a quadratic interpolation to determine the properties of ASNM for the proton fractions between the PNM and SNM limits. Recently, we have obtained ground state properties of SNM by using a Variational Monte Carlo method (VMC) [1]. Here we extended that study to obtain the EOS and some other thermodynamic properties of ASNM.…”

“…When the number of protons and neutrons are the same, the system is called symmetric nuclear matter (SNM). Many calculations have been performed using different methods to solve the many-body problem of infinite symmetric nuclear matter and to describe the saturation and bulk properties of SNM [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. * E-mail: kmanisa@dumlupinar.edu.tr…”
