Assessing the potential of spread of an introduced crop pest in a new country is crucial to anticipating its effects on crop production and deriving phytosanitary management toward reducing potential negative effects. Citrus production represents a key agricultural activity throughout the Mediterranean basin. The African citrus psyllid Trioza erytreae (del Guercio, 1918) (Hemiptera: Triozidae) is a natural vector of Candidatusliberibacter spp., the causal agent of the harmful disease huanglongbing (HLB) or “citrus greening disease”. In continental Europe, T. erytreae was detected for the first time in northwestern Spain in 2014. Pest risk analysis (PRA) approaches, such as modeling, consider both time and space components to predict the potential distribution of pests in a given region. In this work, we aim to parameterize a model able to predict the expected spread of T. erytreae in the Iberian Peninsula using three types of PRA models. The kernel model with two hypothetical entry points accurately predicted the distribution of T. erytreae with respect to latitude. This model should be further refined and validated to support decision-makers in the adoption of timely and successful management and regulatory measures against the spread of T. erytreae to other citrus-producing areas in Europe.

Este trabalho surge da necessidade de identificar um filme negro que cobre grande parte da escultura Morte de Cleópatra, desfigurando-a. Esta obra, esculpida em mármore de Carrara, pertence ao Jardim Botânico Tropical, em Lisboa. Efetuaram-se operações in situ envolvendo medições colorimétricas, testes de adesão e mapeamento das formas de degradação. O filme negro foi igualmente amostrado e observado a nível macro e microscópico. Realizaram-se ainda amostragens nas zonas negras presentes nas espécies botânicas que envolvem a escultura. As amostras individuais do filme negro foram analisadas por espectroscopia de infravermelho com transformada de Fourier. Os resultados obtidos mostram que as amostras coligidas possuem sacarídeos, como a sucrose, encontrados em exemplares de melada (honeydew). Propõe-se que o filme negro seja devido à formação de fumagina (sooty mould). Este filme negro é responsável por danos estéticos, bem como por processos de corrosão da pedra, como foi observado por microscopia eletrónica de varrimento.

The vineyard landscapes that are known today, almost everywhere, result fundamentally from the technical requirements of consumption and markets, and therefore production factors. This condition, corresponding to the productive function of the landscape, must be reconciled with its other functions - conservation of resources and recreation. This article aims to reflect on the principles of design, planning and management associated with this productive system, considering strategies to increase the landscape’s biodiversity and ecological infrastructure, which contributes to greater environmental sustainability. It considers problems linked to climate change, and valuation of the landscape where the economic, social, ecological, and affective dimensions are integrated. The main features and concepts associated with sustainable wine production are integrated production or biologic production. The geomorphological, soil and microclimate features – expressed in the terroir - and the plant species most suitable for sustainable production and protection of these landscapes include systems, infrastructures, and patterns in each landscape. The reflection is supported by one case-study in the Alentejo region of Portugal – the Borba wine sub-region.
