Vitamin E Mediates Cell Signaling and Regulation of Gene Expression

Abstract: alpha-Tocopherol modulates two major signal transduction pathways centered on protein kinase C and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. Changes in the activity of these key kinases are associated with changes in cell proliferation, platelet aggregation, and NADPH-oxidase activation. Several genes are also regulated by tocopherols partly because of the effects of tocopherol on these two kinases, but also independently of them. These genes can be divided in five groups: Group 1. Genes that are involved in the uptake a… Show more

“…Так, у 1991 роцi групою пiд керiвництвом Анджело Аццi (Angelo Azzi) вперше були комплексно описанi не пов'язанi з антиокси-дантними функцiї α-токоферола у клiтинно-му сигналiнгу, що знаходили свою реалiза-цiю в iнгiбуваннi активностi протеїнкiнази С в гладеньком'язових клiтинах [11].

“…In plants, tocopherols are involved in plant responses to abiotic stress, cell membrane stability, signal transduction, and control of light stress in chloroplasts (Munné-Bosch and Alegre, 2002). In addition to their antioxidant effects, tocopherols have other functions, including prevention of lipid oxidation (Frankel, 1996), cell signaling, and gene regulation (Azzi et al, 2004;Rimbach et al, 2010).…”
