Vitamin D Modulates Hematological Parameters and Cell Migration into Peritoneal and Pulmonary Cavities in Alloxan-Diabetic Mice

Abstract: Background/Aims. The effects of cholecalciferol supplementation on the course of diabetes in humans and animals need to be better understood. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of short-term cholecalciferol supplementation on biochemical and hematological parameters in mice. Methods. Male diabetic (alloxan, 60 mg/kg i.v., 10 days) and nondiabetic mice were supplemented with cholecalciferol for seven days. The following parameters were determined: serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, phosphorus, calc… Show more

“…In addition, the leukocyte count appears to stay steady between days 9 and 14 in the IR+LF group at ~2.6x10 3 /µl. On day 29 the leukocyte count of the IR+LF mice had stabilized to within the normal range (7.6x10 9 -10.9x10 9 /l) (21). The significant difference was identified between the control group and the IR+LF group except on day 29 (P<0.05).…”

“…Following a decrease post irradiation, the PLT count in the IR+LF group was restored to within a normal range on day 19 (Fig. 5) (21). However, in the IR group, the PLT count decreased to a minimum value at day 9 and slowly increased to a normal level (21) by day 29.…”
