Background/objectives: There is evidence that vitamin D (VD) supplementation may help in the management of atopic dermatitis (AD). The aim of this study was to assess the influence of VD supplementation on the severity of AD.Methods: Pre–post interventional study with prospective data collection in patients younger than 14 years. The severity of AD was determined through SCORAD (SCORing Atopic Dermatitis) and classified as mild (SCORAD < 25), moderate (≥25 and <50), and severe (≥50). Skin prick test was performed in all patients. Serum VD levels were classified as sufficient (≥30 ng/mL), insufficient (29 to 21 ng/mL), and deficient (≤20 ng/mL); and those with inadequate levels received oral supplementation of VD for 3 months, and were reassessed after treatment.Results: A total of 152 patients were included. Patients with sufficient vitamin levels had lower SCORAD values (p = 0.04). Further, 116 patients (76.3%) received VD supplementation and after 3 months, VD levels were significantly higher (35.9 ng/mL) compared to baseline levels (23.7 ng/mL, p < 0.001). At the same time, a reduction in the SCORAD index was observed (19.4 before vs 12.3 after supplementation, p < 0.001). Considering other factors that could influence the decrease in AD severity after VD supplementation, female gender was associated with a worse treatment response (p = 0.02).Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation could be an adjuvant in reducing the severity of atopic dermatitis.

Alergia e Imunologia (AAAI) foram dados, e criaram um forte alicerce para o desenvolvimento e crescimento de nossa revista.Em 2017, o início de nossa jornada, a AAAI publicou 64 artigos divididos em 4 números, com versão impressa e digital, além de um suplemento em versão digital com os resumos dos estudos apresentados no XLIV Congresso Nacional da Associação Brasileira de Alergia e Imunologia (ASBAI). Foram 9 editoriais, 7 artigos especiais, 11 artigos de revisão, 20 artigos originais, 10 comunicações clínicas ou experimentais breves, 5 cartas ao editor e 2 imagens em alergia e imunologia. Os associados da ASBAI foram os autores de mais de 90% dos estudos publicados, os quais abrangeram os diversos temas de nossa especialidade, como doenças atópicas, urticária/angioedema/ anafilaxia, imunodeficiências, reações adversas a medicamentos, alergia alimentar, imunoterapia, imunomodulação e vacinas. A versão impressa foi distribuída para cerca de 1.700 associados, além de instituições de saúde e ensino, e a versão digital foi acessada cerca de 350.000 vezes, seja na forma de HTML ou PDF. Tudo isso só foi possível em decorrência da estrutura criada, composta por um Corpo Editorial e um Grupo de Revisores de notoriedade acadêmica, ambos com componentes nacionais e estrangeiros, além do apoio incondicional da Diretoria da ASBAI.No começo deste milênio, promulgada pelas declarações de Budapeste (2002), Bethesda (2003) e Berlim (2003), surgiu a iniciativa Open Access (acesso aberto), que se baseia no acesso livre e irrestrito à literatura científica publicada eletronicamente via Internet. As revistas de acesso aberto são jornais acadêmicos que estão disponíveis por meio digital (on-line) para o leitor sem barreiras financeiras, legais ou técnicas. Todos podem acessá-las via Internet. A revista AAAI é de acesso aberto e não tem taxa de publicação (diamond open access journals), o que a diferencia das revistas onde os autores têm que arcar com os custos da publicação (gold open access journals). No caso da ASBAI, os custos de produção e edição são subsidiados pela própria associação e por informes publicitários. Com essa estratégia, os AAAI possibilitam maior visibilidade e divulgação dos artigos publicados, que serão mais lidos e citados. Mantivemos a revista impressa com exclusividade para nossos associados e assinantes, proporcionando bem-estar, conforto e algumas vantagens relacionadas a esta forma de publicação.
