Visualizing vitreous using Kenalog suspension

Abstract: We developed and evaluated a method of visualizing vitreous gel in the anterior segment. In this study, 0.2 mL of injectable triamcinolone (Kenalog) 40 mg/mL was captured in a 5 microm filter and rinsed with 2 mL of balanced salt solution (BSS). It was then resuspended in 5 mL of BSS and recaptured to thoroughly remove the preservative. The Kenalog particles were ultimately resuspended in 2 mL of BSS and injected into the anterior chamber through a 27-gauge cannula. Kenalog particles were trapped on and within… Show more

“…21 However, there are some disadvantages with using triamcinolone as an intracameral staining agent: it is rather expensive, not readily available and is tedious to prepare before use. 22 There is also a significant risk of inducing a rise in IOP. 23,24 11-Deoxycortisol, on the other hand, is also not Correspondence readily available.…”

“…45 TB 0.06% injected under air intracamerally has been shown to stain vitreous within the anterior chamber after 60 s, allowing for its complete removal with a vitrector. Although the use of intracameral triamcinolone 46 has become more popular, the use of TB potentially avoids problems with preservatives and postoperative pressure-related complications.…”
