In recent years we witnessed an impressive advance in the social networks field, which became a "hot" topic and a focus of considerable attention. Also, the development of methods that focus on the analysis and understanding of the evolution of data are gaining momentum. In this paper we present an approach to visualize the evolution of dynamic social networks by using Tucker decomposition and the concept of temporal trajectory. Our visualization strategy is based on the definition of trajectories, both at the node-level and at the community-level, in a bidimensional space that preserves its structural properties. Furthermore, this approach can be used to identify similar actors, or communities of actors, by comparing the shape and position of trajectories. To illustrate the proposed approach we conduct a case study using a set of temporal friendship networks.

Abstract. Medical care, particularly for chronic diseases, accumulates a huge amount of patient data over extensive time periods that needs to be accessed and analyzed accordingly. Information Visualization methods hold great promises in turning data deluge into improved quality of medical care. Yet, patient data management systems mostly provide documents, form-based displays, or static visualizations. We present a design study of an interactive visualization system, called VisuExplore, to support long-term care and medical analysis of patients with chronic diseases. VisuExplore offers interaction techniques for effective exploration of time-oriented data and employs simple, but intuitive visualization techniques. It was developed in close cooperation with physicians. We conducted two user studies with nine physicians and 16 students, which indicate that our design is useful and appropriate for particular tasks.

ABSTRACT:Traditionally the GIScience community is well able to deal with the locational and attribute component of spatio-temporal data. However, the methods and techniques to deal with the data's temporal component are less developed. This paper introduces a conceptual framework that combines user tasks, available temporal data and visualization theories to discuss temporal visualization. Two limitations of existing method are improved by introducing the time wave environment which is a close combination of temporal graphic representation and temporal interactive tools, and operates in so-called time space. A case study based on meteorological data illustrates the approach.
