Visualization Summit 2007: Ten Research Goals for 2010

Abstract: At the first international Visualization Summit, more than 100 international researchers and practitioners defined and assessed nine original and important research goals in the context of Visualization Science, and proposed methods for achieving these goals by 2010. The synthesis of the whole event is presented in the 10th research goal. This article contributes a building block for systemizing visualization research by proposing mutually elaborated research goals with defined milestones. Such a consensus on … Show more

“…Similar calls to the visualization research community have been voiced before [30][31][32], but apparently to little effect. Thanks to recent developments in design research, the time might be ripe for appropriating design research concepts and methods into visualization research, or to put it differently, to address multimodal visualization as a design research discipline.…”

“…The necessity to tightly include the human in the exploration process is now recognized by many authors (e.g. [24][25][26][27][28]. Visual data mining focuses on integrating the user in the knowledge discovery process using effective and efficient visualization techniques and interaction capabilities.…”
