We present the system VIS4AUI, aimed at supporting the analyst to discover financial crimes related to money laundering. An anti-money laundering archive collects financial information with regard to ongoing bank relationships and high value transactions. VIS4AUI is able to import and analyze the Italian anti-money laundering archive (AUI) in order to visualize the banking activity networks arising from it. In the demonstration, the user will be given an evidence of a possible suspicious person or company; starting from such a seed entity, the task will be that of exploring and analyzing her network of transactions through the tools provided by the system. In order to immerse the user in a fully interactive experience, VIS4AUI is a touch-optimized application, only requiring a touchscreen as interface.

Information technologies such as data mining and social network analysis have been widely used in law enforcement to solve crimes. Recent research indicates that geographic profiling also plays an important role in facilitating the investigation of crimes. However, lack of integration makes those systems less helpful in practice. In this paper, we propose an integrated system called PerpSearch that will take a given description of a crime, including its location, type, and the physical description of suspects (personal characteristics or vehicles) as input. To detect suspects, the system will process these inputs through four integrated components: geographic profiling, social network analysis, crime patterns, and physical matching. Essentially, geographic profiling determines "where" the suspects are, while other components determine "who" the suspects are. We then process the results using a score engine to give investigators a ranked list of individuals. To date, we have implemented a prototype of the system based on current Alabama law enforcement data.

Abstract. Social Network research relies on a variety of data-sources, depending on the problem-scenario and the questions which the research is trying to answer or inform. In this paper, we analyze some of the datasources indexed by the sizes of these data-sets and relating them back to the research question, which the data-set is used for. In carrying out such an exercise, our goal is to assign a confidence metric to the data-set when tied to the field within the Social Network analysis that the data is used for. This will lay the foundation for benchmarking the results of any social networking study by means of concrete requirements for the data-sets used in research.
