Visual Appearance of Extended objects in Special Relativity

Abstract:The Lorentz transformation is a spontaneous measurement. We first highlight the difference between "measuring" and "seeing", where the latter considers the time light rays (emitted by each point on the object) take to reach the observer. We compute the apparent position of a point given its velocity, initial position, and observation time. The apparent speed of a point is calculated, and we obtain that it exceeds the speed of light when approaching the observer, similar to superluminal motion. For parameteriza… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
