Vision-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Infectious Keratitis

Abstract: Infectious keratitis has extensive impacts on patients and VR-QOL. The BCVA of worse-seeing eye, duration, history of operation for IK treatment, and gender contributed independently to VR-QOL. Early treatment should be encouraged to obtain better visual prognosis and VR-QOL for patients with IK.

“…Many papers report measuring VA with a Snellen chart and then analyse the data after converting it to logMAR . Snellen charts have an irregular progression in size and are often truncated, so that the data may not follow a normal distribution and parametric analyses might be best avoided .…”

“…The QOL in patients with ocular disorders can be affected by ocular symptoms, such as blurred vision, severe photophobia, or having difficulties in keeping eyes open due to discomfort. 1214 Affected patients might not be able to drive, read, watch television, or perform other common activities in their routine daily life. In this study we describe the epidemiology of ocular GVHD symptoms in patients with chronic GVHD, perform a risk factor analyses, and describe the impact of ocular involvement on QOL.…”

“…For example, a study of unilateral infectious keratitis found that vision-related quality of life was more correlated with vision in the worse-seeing eye. 18 Another study of patients with unilateral branch retinal vein occlusion found that visual acuity in the involved eye was most predictive of visual function. 19 A different study of unilateral central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) found that although vision-related quality of life did not correlate with visual acuity in the affected eye, VFQ responses were lower than a reference group without eye disease—even among those patients with CRVO with excellent vision in the unaffected eye.…”
