Visible‐Light‐Induced Degradation of Methylene Blue by SrBi3VO8 Nanoparticles

Abstract: Nanosized particles of strontium bismuth vanadate SrBi3VO8 were prepared via the Pechini method on the base of citrate‐complexation route. The samples were characterized using X‐ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray spectra (EDX), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS), and UV–vis absorption spectrum. This bismuth‐containing vanadate presents an efficient absorption in the UV–visible light wavelength region with a narrow band‐gap energy of 2.36 eV and an ind… Show more

“…Obviously, the peak intensity reaches maximum at x = 0.1 and then decreases with the increase of x value, indicating that the e − –h + recombination was effectively prohibited. This means that much more photon energy were utilized to degrade RhB rather than to emission light, which is facial for the better photodegradation performance …”

“…Environmental pollution problems facing the world today have attracted much attention and are getting worse . Since Fujishima demonstrated the photocatalysis with TiO 2 under UV‐light irradiation in 1970s, semiconductor‐based photocatalytic technique has been considered to be one of the reliable and ultimate solutions to dealing with global environmental pollution . TiO 2 is a famous semiconductor owning improved photocatalytic activities for the oxidative degradation of organic compounds .…”

“…[1][2][3] Since Fujishima demonstrated the photocatalysis with TiO 2 under UV-light irradiation in 1970s, semiconductor-based photocatalytic technique has been considered to be one of the reliable and ultimate solutions to dealing with global environmental pollution. [4][5][6] TiO 2 is a famous semiconductor owning improved photocatalytic activities for the oxidative degradation of organic compounds. 7,8 However, TiO 2 with band gap of 3.2 eV has poor nature solar efficiency and slow reaction rate, which hinders its further applications.…”

“…For example, there are efficient optical absorption centers of VO 4 3À in vanadates such as BiVO 4 [8], InVO 4 [9], SrBi 3 VO 8 [10], etc., where photoinduced electrons can be induced by electron transition from O2p to V3d orbitals [11]. By taking into account of cations in semiconductors, Ag-containing oxides semiconductors have been extensively studied because of their efficient photocatalytic properties.…”
