Abstract:Abstract. Long-term and high spatial resolution aerosol optical depth (AOD) data are essential for climate change detection and attribution. Global ground-based AOD observations are sparsely distributed, and satellite AOD retrievals have a low temporal frequency as well low accuracy before 2000 over land.
