Viscosity Measurement and Correlation of Unloaded and CO2-Loaded 3-Amino-1-propanol Solution

Abstract: This paper reports new viscosity data for unloaded and CO 2 -loaded aqueous 3-amino-1-propanol (3A1P) solutions. For the unloaded system, experiments were performed over the whole concentration range at temperatures between 298.15 and 373.15 K. In the case of a CO 2 -loaded system, measurements were performed at five different CO 2 -loadings ranging from 0.13 to 0.54 mol of CO 2 /mol of 3A1P at 0.30 and 0.50 3A1P mass fractions. The experimental data were also regressed using available methods from the literat… Show more

“…This emphasizes strong intermolecular attractions in the solution. As reported by Idris et al, (2018), < 0 for the water rich region indicates weak intermolecular attractions. The presence of strong intermolecular attractions is determined as > 0 for amine rich region.…”

“…The study is based on measured density and viscosity data of this and previous works performed in University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) (Idris and Eimer, 2016;Idris et al, 2018). Idris and Eimer, (2016) and Idris et al, (2018) discussed the density and viscosity of aqueous 3A1P solutions under the range of mass fractions 1 (i=1 and 2 refer amine and water respectively) within 0-1 and temperatures 293.15-353.15K and 298.15-373.15K respectively. The correlation suggested by Aronu et al, (2012) as given in (14) was adopted to correlate aqueous 3A1P density data.…”

“…In general, the time of reaching equilibrium was short at low pressures, however increasing CO 2 pressure resulted in a very long time of equilibration. This is attributed to the increasing viscosity [ 28 ] upon CO 2 absorption that causes higher resistance of diffusion and hindrance in migration of CO 2 molecules [ 29 , 30 ]. The observed increase of viscosity was very high.…”

“…According to Eyring's viscosity model, it can be argued that more energy is required to make necessary holes for molecules to jump in when they are closely packed. The sign of η E emphasizes strong specific interactions such as hydrogen bonding, which causes complex formations in the amine-rich region and weak interactions in the water-rich region [31].…”
