Viscosity, Density, and Speed of Sound for the Binary Mixtures of Formamide with 2-Methoxyethanol, Acetophenone, Acetonitrile, 1,2-Dimethoxyethane, and Dimethylsulfoxide at Different Temperatures

Abstract: Densities and viscosities of binary liquid mixtures of formamide with 2-methoxyethanol, acetophenone, acetonitrile, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, and dimethylsulfoxide have been measured at (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K and over the entire composition range at p = 0.1 MPa. Ultrasonic speeds of these binary liquid mixtures have also been measured at 298.15 K and the same pressure. From the experimental data, values of excess molar volume , viscosity deviation Δη, and deviation in isentropic compressibility ΔK S have … Show more

“…The acetophenone and other aromatic ketones have multi-applicability in the field of industry and used as a precursor in some pharmaceuticals. To the best of our knowledge there are only few reports on volumetric, viscometric and ultrasonic velocity measurements on some acetophenones and solid organic compounds in different solvents [6][7][8] but no such studies have been carried out on binary mixture of CHNA with DMF which prompted us to investigate effect of temperature on ultrasonic velocity and thermodynamic properties of 5-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-nitroacetophenone (CHNA) in DMF. Further, CHNA has two features, the intramolecular hydrogen bond linking the hydroxyl and acetyl groups and the strong dynamics of the nitro group substituted in the 3-position.…”

“…The ultrasonic velocities (u) in pure liquids and in their binary mixtures were measured using a single-crystal variable path multi-frequency ultrasonic interferometer (M-81X), operating at 2 MHz, supplied by Mittal Enterprises, New Delhi, and calibrated with purified water and benzene at 298.15 K. The ultrasonic velocities were reproducible within +0.03%. The temperature was maintained by an electronically controlled thermostated water bath supplied by Orbit to an accuracy of +0.01 K. The reliability of experimental measurements of density and ultrasonic velocity data was ascertained by comparing the data of pure liquids with the corresponding values, which were available in the literature [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] at the temperatures ranging from 298.15 K to 318.15 K. The infrared spectra for the FA/NMF + 2-CletOH systems have been recorded using (model 8201) supplied by Perkin-Elmer, at Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow.…”
