Rocks creep has a great importance in the evaluation of the long-term behaviour of elements built with or within these materials. In this work, a porous well-known limestone locally named as San Julián stone has been physically and mechanically characterized. Uniaxial compressive tests for 96 h. at constant stress are carried out. Long-term behaviour has been modelled by means of a well-known creep model, the CEB-FIP Model code 2010, used for modelling other stony-material (i.e. concrete). Furthermore, a rheological model has been proposed. The main aim of this work is to investigate the possibility of exploiting the vast experience accumulated in the study of concrete deformational long-term behaviour in order to obtaining a reasonable approach to the behaviour of the rock, for too long testing times difficult to implement in laboratory. A creep function adapted to the studied rock only dependent on its elastic and mechanical characteristics is also proposed in this work.

On basis of triaxial creep experimental results of coal with various deviatoric stress levels, a new nonlinear visco-elastic and accelerating creep model is put forward. First, Burgers visco-elastic triaxial creep model is deduced and used to identify the creep parameters by the discrimination criterion of the square of correlation coefficient (R 2 ) and sum of least error square (Q). In Burgers visco-elastic triaxial creep model, the visco-elastic modulus G 2 of coal decreases but the visco coefficient g 1 and g 2 all increase with increasing time, which has distinct time scale effect. The Burgers visco-elastic triaxial creep model fails in predicting long-term deformation characteristics. Then by introducing a time index, a nonlinear visco-elastic triaxial creep model is put forward, which can predict better for long-term deformation behavior of coal. R 2 identified by nonlinear visco-elastic triaxial creep model is higher, but Q identified by nonlinear visco-elastic triaxial creep model is smaller 1 order than that by Burgers triaxial creep model. However, Burgers and nonlinear viscoelastic triaxial creep model is very difficult to describe the accelerating creep stage of coal. Therefore in the end, a new nonlinear accelerating creep model is put forward in order to describe the complete creep curve of coal. The nonlinear accelerating creep model has a better agreement with the experimental data.

A Generalized Plasticity-Based Model for Sandstone Considering Time-Dependent Behavior and Wetting Deterioration

Based on the concept of generalized plasticity, this study proposes a constitutive model to describe the time-dependent behavior and wetting deterioration of sandstone. The proposed model (1) exhibits nonlinear elasticity under hydrostatic and shear loading, (2) follows the associated flow rule for viscoplastic deformation, (3) adopts a creep modulus that varies with the stress ratio, (4) considers the primary and secondary creep behaviors of rock, and (5) considers the effect of wetting deterioration. This model requires 13 material parameters, comprising 3 for elasticity, 7 for plasticity, and 3 for creep. All parameters can be determined easily by following the suggested procedures. The proposed model is first validated by comparison with triaxial tests of sandstone under different hydrostatic stress and cyclic loading conditions. In addition, the model is versatile in simulating time-dependent behavior through a series of multistage creep tests. Finally, to consider the effects of wetting deterioration, triaxial and creep tests under dry and water-saturated conditions are simulated. Comparison of the simulated and experimental data shows that the proposed model can predict the behavior of sandstone in dry and saturated conditions.
