“…The species transmits at least the following viruses: OSDV, EWSMV, Aster yellows virus and maize rough dwarf virus (e.g. SLYKHUIS 1958, SLYKHUIS and WATSON 1958, PRIJ §A 1958, VACKE and PRI'AA 1959, KLINKOWSICI 1961, BLATTNY et al 1965, HARPAZ et al 1965. “…Tosic (1962) described four of the virus diseases of maize in Serbia, including leaf fleck, and stated that in the regions, where hybrid corn was grown, 50-90 % of the plants were infected with virus diseases, while in regions where dent and flint corn were grown virus infections were observed to the extent of 15-30 %. BLATTNY et al (1965) observed and illustrated leaf fleck in Czechoslovakia. This is all the information which we had on maize leaf fleck before the author published his first paper on this disease (1965).…”

“…The second type of syndrome is noticeably milder, infected plants being almost as tall as non-infected ones, and the number of vein swellings much smaller. This non-dwarfing form of the disease also affects the reproductive organs of the plant resulting in either partial sterility of both male and female flowers, or other floral malformations as described by Grancini (1958), Harpaz (1959) and Blattny. Pozdena & Prochazkova (1965).…”
