“…The observed reduced expression levels of IL-6 and IL-23a in similar groups could be due to the increased expression of IL-10 in the liver. A significant increase in IL-10 production in the liver has been demonstrated in Campylobacter -infected BALB/c mice, while IL-6 production was not significant ( 43 ). In general, IL-10 was downregulated or not expressed in ASC-treated groups.…”

“…Research on C. coli has been widely neglected to the present date, although the pathogen is the second most common causative agent of human Campylobacter infections after C. jejuni [33]. Despite the fact that several studies point towards genetic differences between C. coli and C. jejuni, knowledge regarding the phenotypic differences is virtually lacking [34][35][36]. Very recently, our group demonstrated that, in contrast to C. jejuni, a C. coli patient isolate could override the colonization resistance of conventionally colonized wildtype mice, and remained in the large intestine up to three weeks post-infection [37].…”

“…This is in accordance with Klancnik et al . [ 15 ] who found beside the high level of anti-inflammatory cytokines, a pronounced increase in IL-10 in the plasma between day 1 and 8 post infection in mice infected with C . coli .…”

“…jejuni [ 8 , 9 , 14 ] and C . coli was also reported [ 15 ]. Beside its inflammatory action, IL-6 plays a critical role in governing the transition from innate to acquired immunity [ 13 ].…”
