“…In one of our earlier studies, a wheat line introgressed with the Lr47 gene exerted high resistance to the majority of leaf rust races collected in China, including FHPR, THJS, THTS, FHJQ, PHSL, PHJT, PHSS, KHSS, PHTT, THTT, FHTR, FHHT, TGGT, FHTT, and FGMT [23]. The leaf rust race THTT was predominant in China and showed high virulence to most of the designated Lr genes [5]. In the current investigation, we collected wheat lines introgressed with the Lr47 gene in different spring common wheat cultivars “Yecora Rojo”, “UC1037”, and “White Yecora” from a previous research [23].…”

“…In China, due to the climate change and the large-scale cultivation of less diversified wheat cultivars, the epidemic area of wheat leaf rust has expanded from the Yellow-Huai River Valley area to the major wheat-growing regions [3,4]. In the year of 2012, an epidemic of wheat leaf rust occurred in China on more than 15 million ha and led to an approximately 3 million ton yield losses [5,6]. Currently, the genetic improvement of wheat cultivars using different Lr genes is still the most effective solution for this issue.…”

“…The genomic DNA of each isolate sample was extracted from the urediniospores according to the modified Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB) method described by Gao (2003). The 21 pairs of EST-SSR primers (Supplementary Table S2) developed by Wang et al (2010aWang et al ( , 2010b were used for PCR reaction, and the total reaction system and amplification procedure were performed as described by Zhang et al (2018). PCR products were separated by 10% (w/v) polyacrylamide gel in 0.5× TBE buffer (45 mM Tris, 45 mM boric acid, and 1 mM EDTA), visualized by silver staining.…”

“…However, it only revealed the population differences between 2 years in Hebei Province, which did not fully reveal the P. triticina population dynamic patterns in this region. In this study, we analyzed the population genetic diversity of P. triticina in Hebei Province for 10 years (2001)(2002)(2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010) based on the results of Zhang et al (2018), which can provide a basis for further exploring the race variation patterns of P. triticina and the molecular mechanism of race virulence evolution.…”

“…( Pt ) is a widespread fungal disease that often leads to significant wheat yield losses ( Huerta-Espino et al, 2011 ; Singh et al, 2016 ). China is the world’s largest wheat producer, and leaf rust epidemics affect approximately 15 million ha in China annually ( Liu and Chen, 2012 ; Zhang L. et al, 2019 ). Breeding and planting wheat cultivars resistant to leaf rust can reduce fungicide use and is thus an economical and environmentally friendly strategy for managing this disease.…”
