Virulence and antimicrobial susceptibility profile of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from frozen vegetables available in the Egyptian market

Abstract: Listeria monocytogenes is among the most important foodborne pathogens. It may enter foodprocessing environments through raw materials, handlers or equipment and may persist due to ineffective cleaning or sanitation. The bacterium can be isolated from both frozen vegetables and fresh food substances. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of L. monocytogenes in spices and frozen vegetables and screen for some virulence factors and drug-resistance determinants of the isolated bacteria. First, conventional … Show more

“…in a study conducted on isolates of s. aureus bacteria, which were resistant to ciprofloxacin and clindamycin by 77.7% and 79.4%, respectively. This result also agreed with what [16] concluded. Perhaps the reason for the resistance of bacteria to these antibiotics is due to their increasing use as growth stimulants in animal feed and the increased and random treatment, which increases the resistance of bacterial strains to these antibiotics [17].…”

“…In addition, resistance to kanamycin, erythromycin, and tetracycline was common in our study. As important supplements for animal feed as growth promoters and for the treatment of human disease (Adzitey et al, 2013 ; Rasha et al, 2018 ), it maybe the major reason for more and more resistant strains have been commonly observed.…”
