Cloud computing recently emerged as an interesting model that enables computing and other related internet activities to take place anywhere, anytime. Cloud service providers centralize all servers, networks, and applications to allow their users' access at any time and from any location. Cloud computing uses already existing resources like server, CPU and storage memory but runs on a new technology known as virtualization. The core idea of virtualization is to create several virtual versions of one single computing device or resource. This enables many user operating systems to work on such a single underlying piece of device. Network bandwidth is one of the critical resources in a cloud environment. Bandwidth management involves the use of techniques, technologies, tools, and policies to help avoid network congestion and ensure optimal use of the subscribed bandwidth resources while also being a bedrock of any subscription-based access network. Bandwidth management is being utilized by organizations to allow them to efficiently utilize their subscribed bandwidth resources. Bandwidth management deals with the measurement and control of packets or traffic on a network link in order to refrain from overburdening or overloading the link which can lead to poor performance and network congestion. In this paper, the highest development with respect to virtualization in cloud computing is presented. This study review papers available on cloud computing and relevant published literature in multiple areas like conferences, journals etc. This paper examined present mechanisms that enable cloud service providers to distribute bandwidth more effectively. This paper is therefore a study of virtualization in cloud computing, and the identification of bandwidth management mechanisms in the cloud environment. This will benefit forthcoming cloud providers and even cloud users..

This chapter focuses on the technological wave of change called the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), which is also known as the information age or industry 4.0. It starts off with a brief history of the concept, describing the evolution through the ages, from the age of industrialization to the current technological age. The chapter then presents industry 4.0 through three lenses, which are i) the key enabling technologies that serve as its foundational pillars, such as the Internet and Cloud Computing; ii) technologies and concepts that emanate from 4IR, as well as their applications, which are discussed using use-cases; iii) the impacts of industry 4.0 on the wider society (both positive and negative). Finally, the chapter closes with a discussion on some open challenges that need to be considered in future research works to enhance the widespread adaptation and/or implementation of industry 4.0.

Performance Impact of Type-I Virtualization on a NewSQL Relational Database Management System

For more than 40 years, the relational database management system (RDBMS) and the atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability (ACID) transaction guarantees provided through its use have been the standard for data storage. The advent of Big Data created a need for new storage approaches that led to NoSQL technologies, which rely on basic availability, soft-state, eventual consistency (BASE) transactions. Over the last decade, NewSQL RDBMS technology has emerged, providing the benefits of RDBMS ACID transaction guarantees and the performance and scalability of NoSQL databases. The reliance on virtualization in IT has continued to grow, but an investigation of current academic literature identified a void regarding the performance impact of virtualization of NewSQL databases. To help address the lack of research in this area, a quantitative experimental study was designed and carried out to answer the central research question, "What is the performance impact of Type-I virtualization on a NewSQL RDBMS?" VMware ESXi virtualization software, NuoDB RDBMS, and OLTP-Bench software were used to execute a mixed-load benchmark. Performance metrics were collected comparing bare metal and virtualized environments, and the data analyzed statistically to evaluate five hypotheses related to CPU utilization, memory utilization, disk and network input-output (I/O) rates, and database transactions per second. Findings indicated a negative performance impact on CPU and memory utilization, as well as network I/O rates. Performance improvements were noted in disk I/O rates and database transactions-per-second.
