Wireless networks are susceptible to many security problems since the wireless medium is open. Jammer (jamming attack) is the most important problems in wireless networks. It is denial-of-service attack in which attackers send malicious signals or messages on a channel that is intended for normal traffic by intentionally interfering with the network. One of the solutions is the development of tunneling technology as an attempt to secure communication networks. Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunneling technology when integrated with firewall would provide a suitable security. In this study, number of Jammers would interfere with the normal operation of the network resulting in performance degradation of network. These Jammers decrease throughput and increase delay and data dropped. The aim of this study is to improve the performance of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) by integrating Firewall with VPN in number of different Riverbed Modeler simulation scenarios which it is utilized in this study for video and data applications. Firewall is a technology employed to regulate the level of network connectivity. It can block unauthorized access from an external network to an internal network’s resources. In this study, the tunneling technology of VPN was integrated with firewall to improve the performance by increasing the throughput and decreasing delay and data dropped. The firewall would block any access to the server from the workstations and the VPN would filter the packets to allow a specific access to the specific server. The results showed that VPN when integrated with firewall increased the throughput from 1,350,000 to 1,500,000 bits/sec and decreased the delay from 0.0054 sec to 0.0047 sec and data dropped from 7,800 to 5,000 bits/sec so that this study proved that VPN incorporated with firewall provides a good throughput and delay improvement for wireless local area network.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an interconnected network of electronic objects, machines, and physical items in our environment. Wireless Sensor Network is the key component of Internet of Things. Wi-Fi is used by IoT to link home appliances to the internet so that they may be managed and controlled remotely. Sensors were used in WSN technology to sense and gather data from various smart home components, then send it to a gateway. In this paper, the performance of IoT based WSN had been examined when the Jammers interfered with the normal operation of the network and caused deficiency in network from the delay, throughput and data dropped points of view which they are important parameters to examine the performance of any network. The aim of this paper is to improve the degradation in performance caused by Jammers using three Ad Hoc routing protocols (AODV, OLSR and GRP) in number of different Riverbed Modeler Simulation scenarios for different audio and video applications. The results showed that the Ad Hoc routing protocols played a significant role in network performance. AODV had been investigated a better delay and data dropped improvement with acceptable throughput improvement while OLSR had the best throughput among other routing protocols with acceptable improvement in delay and data dropped. According to the research, an intelligent system should be used to decide whether a route is used for applications with a high throughput requirement or low delay and data loss.

Wireless technology is utilized by various Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as smartphones, drones, and cameras, to establish multiple inter-device connections simultaneously. The flexibility of wireless networks allows users to create IoTbased ad-hoc networks on demand. This connectivity enables linking hundreds to thousands of people, leading to significant enhancements in productivity and profitability. However, the flexibility of the IoT network also introduces a range of threats that require attention. The primary research methodology employed in this study was simulation to investigate and identify existing vulnerabilities or loopholes in the transport layer of IoT networks that use the ad-hoc ondemand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol. The simulation software utilized was NetSim 12.02, which is based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.15.4 standard. We conducted simulations of synchronization (SYN) flood attacks on IoT networks by exploiting vulnerabilities in the underlying protocol. The tests and data collection for this study were conducted using the simulation software. The research demonstrates that the transport layer of the IoT network, when utilizing the AODV protocol, can be compromised to launch a SYN-flood attack,resulting in severe performance degradation of the system. The results demonstrate that SYN-flood attack nodes result in a decrease in throughput ranging from 9.1% to 17.79%, an increase in delay ranging from 1.08% to 3.26%, and an increase in network jitter ranging from 15.4% to 22.88%. These findings can assist IoT network administrators in better planning and implementing preventive measures against SYN flood attacks on IoT networks that utilize the AODV protocol.
