Virtual Commissioning Of Manufacturing Systems A Review And New Approaches For Simplification

Abstract: Virtual commissioning (VC) of manufacturing systems has been researched for more than 10 years. Its intention is to test manufacturing systems and associated control programs through simulation conducted before the real systems are realised. The expected benefits in reducing debugging and correction efforts expended during real commissioning, however, can only be achieved if sufficiently detailed manufacturing system models are available for simulation. To date, the design of such models has certainly required… Show more

“…The main motivation to use VC is to reduce testing and integration time during development (Hoffmann et al, 2010;Park and Chang, 2012;Lee and Park, 2014). This is achieved by being able to test and integrate the control system before the physical production system is completely installed.…”

“…In order to figure out the L-College's environment and get ready for designing the VDI system, the follow key points should be taken into consideration: user data, personalization, application management, and hardware management. The results from analyzing these four aspects may lead to the successful selection of the methods and technologies (Hoffmann, Schumann, Maksoud & Premier, 2010).…”

“…A high quality end product may have more functions, but it is hard to use it for the customers with lower computer skills, and vice versa. Therefore, it is necessary to make out the computer skills of those potential users, which can be obtained possibly by a survey via questionnaires (Hoffmann, Schumann, Maksoud & Premier, 2010). …”

“…Based on game engine technology, forces like gravity can act upon the elements in the model. By interfacing the virtual model with a PLC, it is possible to test the control software through simulation before the real system is realized (Hoffmann et al (2010)). Besides the 3D visualization tool and the PLC interface which make up the core functionalities of VC software, Experior also 1) provides extended libraries for 3D building blocks of logistic systems, 2) offers the possibility to program custom functionalities and 3) integrates different communication protocols whether industrial (e.g.…”
