“…Za čim daljšo življenjsko dobo objekta je poskušal pri zamenjavi katerega koli dela uporabljati boljše in kakovostnejše materiale v močnejši in popolnejši obliki, umestitev novega (zamenjanega) konstrukcijskega elementa na isto mesto pa izvesti brez goljufanja, ali kot je zapisal (prav tam: 459): »[S]lediti tej preprosti metodi presojanja, katere moč lahko opazi vsak, čeprav ni izurjen v arhitekturni umetnosti.« Leta 1854 je pisal o pomembnosti stila in njegovi sporočilno-sti. Njegov cilj je bil posnemati naravo ter njena nezmotljiva načela in zakonitosti, ki se jih tenkočutno vpelje v arhitekturo, saj mora ta ponuditi enako popolnost, kot jo lahko ponudi le narava (Davis, 2010). O vsakem delu zgradbe, njeni zunanjosti in konstrukciji, ki mora biti restavrirana v svojem stilu, odvisno od tipa in namembnosti objekta, Viollet-le- Duc (1990: 233) pravi: »Stil pripada pripovedovalcu /.../ in mora pustiti vtis na vsakogar.« Ker ima vsaka doba svoj stil, ki tvori harmonijo in enotnost v arhitekturi, »moramo ali povzeti enega od znanih stilov ali pa si izmisliti novega« (Viollet-le-Duc, 1987: 484).…”
