Abstract: This article provides violent crime data in Malaysia from 2006 to 2017. The violent crimes include murder, rape, gang robbery, robbery and voluntarily causing hurt cases. “…In this study, we provide recent data for property crime in Malaysia over the period from 2007 to 2017 extracted from the PRS. Combined with our previous report on violent crime cases (Hakim et al, 2019a), the property crime statistics presented here provide more extensive documentation of index crimes in Malaysia. Both, property and violent crime datasets can thus made more widely available to potentially interested groups of readers including the general public, the forensic community and the entire body of law enforcement practitioners.…”

“…This is a retrospective study based on property crime data extracted from PRS with written permission from the Inspector General Police of Malaysia, as previously described for violent crimes (Hakim et al, 2019a) Whoever, intending to take dishonestly any movable property out of the possession of any person without that person's consent, moves that property in order to such taking, is said to commit "theft". Whoever commits "theft" shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or with fine or with both, and for a second or subsequent offence shall be punished with imprisonment and shall also be liable to fine or to whipping.…”

“…The death of a child may also occur when the child is being abandoned (section 317 of Act 574), killing a baby by a mother who suffers postpartum mental health problems (offence of infanticide under section 309A), and child maltreatment. Fortunately, the number of cases of homicide has been steadily declining from over 600 cases in 2006 to over 400 cases in 2017 ( Hakim et al, 2019 ). However, the datasets for homicide involving children below the age of 18 years old are not widely available and often come from anecdotal sources such as newspaper reports.…”

“…It is important to note that the term “hit” refers to an exact (100%) concordance between two DNA profiles stored in the FDDM and those from crime scenes, suspects, detainees, drug users, convicted offenders, missing persons, or volunteers. This number increased to 69 by 2019 ( Table 2 and Table S1 ; refer to Hakim et al [ 7 ] for the definition of violent crime in Malaysia). The number of hits thus increased by more than three-fold in just two years, and this observation reflects the greatly increased number of DNA profiles deposited in FDDM over recent years.…”
