Purpose: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is an urgent matter, and a global concern for several countries across the world highlighted high numbers and percentages also before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Further, international states and organizations have claimed an increase in IPV numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic, raising awareness of the potential causes and providing urgent recommendations and guidelines to follow for the containment and possible interventions. Based on these priorities, this review aims to explore and analyze the existing scientific literature on the association and consequences of COVID-19 on Domestic Violence and to sum up the strategies and recommendations for clinicians and health care workers. Methods: The electronic databases of PubMed, Scopus and Science of Direct were searched. Papers published between 2019 and 2020, written in English and having as main focus the domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, were included. Results: At the final stage, 60 articles were included and analyzed. Results pointed three pre-determined categories: the course, the dynamics, the recommendations and an adjunctive category DV and disasters. Conclusions: Since COVID-19 is responsible for a spike in DV cases, it is essential to implement specific and shared assessment strategies and targeted interventions in order to prevent the adverse outcomes of IPV.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, incipient data have revealed an increase in violence against women (VAW). Objective: To analyze the existing scientific literature on strategies and recommendations to respond to VAW during the implementation of social distancing measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Search strategy: An integrative review was conducted based on articles published between December 2019 and June 2020. Suitable articles were identified from the PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases, using relevant terms. Selection criteria: Eligible studies included opinion and primary research articles describing the dynamics of VAW during quarantine and in the context of the restrictive measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and proposing recommendations to respond to this issue. Data collection and analysis: Data were extracted from eligible publications and qualitative synthesis was used. Main results: The 38 articles included in the study showed that some factors increasing women's vulnerabilities to violence were exacerbated during the social distancing and lockdown period. Health professionals are essential for screening and responding to VAW during the pandemic. Conclusions: Strategies must include integrated actions aiming to prevent and respond to violence during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. These must be designed based on lessons learned from previous public health emergencies.

Objetivo: sintetizar as informações contidas em artigos originais publicados no ano de 2020 sobre violência doméstica em tempos de pandemia da COVID-19 no Brasil e identificar que medidas, inclusive jurídicas, podem ser tomadas para amparar a mulher frente a essa situação. Método: revisão integrativa de literatura realizada por meio de buscas entre os meses de abril e julho de 2020 nas bases de dados LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE, no motor de buscas PUBMED, e em um buscador acadêmico (Google Scholar). Utilizou-se palavras chaves presentes nos Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS) e no Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), bem como revisão legislativa sobre a temática. Foram incluídos no estudo artigos originais que abordaram o tema violência doméstica em tempos de pandemia. Resultados: dos estudos encontrados, dois atenderam aos critérios pré-estabelecidos para a inclusão neste estudo. Após análise dos textos foi possível organizar as informações obtidas em duas abordagens: o que já se sabe sobre o aumento da violência doméstica em tempos de pandemia e o que pode ser feito, considerando medidas jurídicas, para amparar as mulheres vítimas de violência doméstica durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Conclusão: foram selecionados dois artigos originais cujos resultados e conclusões associados às produções científicas, legislações e relatórios de organizações nacionais e internacionais, consideradas na revisão podem subsidiar a prática de gestores e profissionais de saúde no enfrentamento da violência contra a mulher no Brasil em tempos de pandemia. Ficou evidente a necessidade de estudos originais sobre o tema.
