Village Regrouping in the Eastern Plains of China: A Perspective on Home-Field Distance

Abstract: Rural decline caused by rapid urbanization is a global issue, and village regrouping is an effective way to revitalize the countryside. The eastern plains of China (EPC) were the first regions to implement the policy of village regrouping in China. Despite being one of the most critical factors in village regrouping, home-field distances (HFDs) in these areas have received little attention. In this study, we selected 240 sample points in the EPC through spatial stratified sampling, each of which is a square of… Show more

“…The development of network and information technology shortens the distance between rural areas and the market, improves the opportunity of external learning, and thus promotes the development of rural areas [10]. With the integration of new disciplines and new technologies, the spatial agglomeration of rural settlements has become a research hotspot [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…To incorporate the spatial relationship between populations and the educational sites, Euclidean distance was thus computed from the center of the cells' source of the colleges and university locations and MIRTA to the center of each of the neighboring cells (X. Li et al 2019). The computation formula used to determine this distance is…”

“…In this research, it was necessary to compute the Euclidean distance for both the MIRTAs layer and the NCES layer, as noted in Figure 4 (X. Li et al 2019). As explained earlier in the conceptual approach, proximity is important to prospective students and thus critical in suitability models.…”

“…Every twenty or thirty households were concentrated, the landscape and roads were interlaced, and nine large new courtyards had been formed ( Figure 12). Village regrouping is an effective way to revitalize the countryside [53]. As a result of village regrouping, Qinggangshu Village has made the use of land more effective.…”
