Background and Aim The COVID‐19 pandemic has plagued our lives for more than 2 years, and the preference for convalescent plasma (CP) as a life‐saving treatment since CP has proven as a potential therapeutic option for acute COVID‐19 patients who were suffering from severe disease. It is important to identify which factors are associated with plasma donation. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the associated factors for CP donation to COVID‐19 patients. Methods A cross‐sectional study was conducted online from December 21, 2021 to February 15, 2022 to identify different socio‐demographic factors and knowledge related to CP donation. People who recovered from the COVID‐19 infections and those who are willing to participate were included in the study. A total of 60 participants were included in the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation matrix, and factor analysis. Results The analysis results confirm that 41.67% ( n = 25) of the participants aged 26–30 years; among the recovered patients, only about 23% ( n = 14) of the participants donated plasma. Though 97% ( n = 58) of the participants agreed to donate plasma when it will be needed, however, when someone asked to donate plasma then 76.67% ( n = 46) of the patients declined it. Findings depict that gender had a weak positive relationship with ever decline in plasma donation at 5% level of significance and the age of the participants inversely related to plasma donation. Conclusion Almost all the recovered participants were willing to donate plasma, however, due to a lack of knowledge and misconception, relatively few people actually did. This study reemphasizes the importance of health education to overcome the misconception about plasma donation, which is crucial for the treatment of COVID‐19 infection.

An outbreak of a potentially fatal form of pneumonia in 1976 and in the annual convention of the American Legion was the first time that Legionella spp. was identified. Thereafter, the term Legionnaires’ disease (LD) was established. The infection in humans is transmitted by the inhalation of aerosols that contain the microorganisms that belong to the Legionellaceae family and the genus Legionella. The genus Legionella contains genetically heterogeneous species and serogroups. The Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 (Lp1) is the most often detected strain in outbreaks of LD. The pathogenesis of LD infection initiates with the attachment of the bacterial cells to the host cells, and subsequent intracellular replication. Following invasion, Legionella spp. activates its virulence mechanisms: generation of specific compartments of Legionella-containing vacuole (LCV), and expression of genes that encode a type IV secretion system (T4SS) for the translocation of proteins. The ability of L. pneumophila to transmigrate across the lung’s epithelium barrier leads to bacteremia, spread, and invasion of many organs with subsequent manifestations, complications, and septic shock. The clinical manifestations of LD depend on the bacterial load in the aerosol, the virulence factors, and the immune status of the patient. The infection has two distinct forms: the non- pneumatic form or Pontiac fever, which is a milder febrile flu-like illness, and LD, a more severe form, which includes pneumonia. In addition, the extrapulmonary involvement of LD can include heart, brain, abdomen, and joints.

Globally, the Blood Donor Unit service has had a significant impact during the Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic. A significant impact occurred on donor recruitment due to the many considerations for donors during the pandemic. Changes in donor characteristics data before the pandemic and during the pandemic may occur. Therefore, researchers analyzed the impact of the pandemic on donors at Blood Donor Unit (Indonesian Red Cross, Semarang City, 2019 to 2021. Subjects and Methods: A study with a cross sectional design was conducted at Blood Donor Unit PMI Semarang. Secondary data collection consisting of voluntary blood donor form data from 2019 to 2021. The data were analyzed by One-Way Anova and Kruskal-Wallis with SPSS version 25. The study showed a significant decrease in age categories, namely < 18 years, 18-24 years and 25 -44 years and repeat donors in 2021 with 2019 and 2020 with 2019 (p < 0.05). There was a significant decrease in first-time donors in 2021 with 2019 and in 2020 with 2019 (p < 0.001). However, there was an increase in donors in the >60 year age category in 2020 and 2021 by 18.6% and 42% compared to 2019 although not statistically significant.
