Video-assisted thoracoscopic patent ductus arteriosus closure in 2,000 patients

Abstract: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery has proved to be a safe and effective method with low complication and high success rates. From 1997 to 2008, 2,000 consecutive patients with patent ductus arteriosus underwent closure of the ductus with 2 titanium clips via a video-assisted thoracoscopic technique. Complete closure was confirmed using our handmade intraesophageal stethoscope. The mean age was 5.2 years, and mean weight was 9.8 kg. One death was reported 1 month after surgery, due to sepsis during hospitali… Show more

“…Minimally invasive thoracoscopic techniques have also been successfully used. 56 In the presence of ductal calcification, significant pleural scarring, or in "window-like" arterial ducts, video-assisted ligation is not an option and open surgical techniques are indicated. When video-assisted ligation is possible, the approach is based on the patient's and surgeon's preference.…”

“…Бокерия и соавт. [28] Два случая резидуальных шунтов после применения титановых клипс в нашей серии, выявленные в течение первого года после операции, совпали с результатами, опубликованными в зарубежной литературе: 2,1% в отделенном периоде [14][15][16][17][18]. Данный факт заставил нас задуматься о целесообразности применения титановых клипс.…”

“…These patients may present with or without any anatomical or functional defects that can be visualized in imaging tests such as echocardiography. Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Down syndrome patients with structural heart disease (19,20), studies on the group of Down syndrome with apparently normally structured heart are needed. Therefore, this study investigated the cardiac systolic and diastolic functions of 36 patients with Down syndrome who had no history of congenital heart disease using the tissue echocardiography technique.…”
