Video-assisted anal fistula treatment combined with anal fistula plug for treatment of horseshoe anal fistula

Abstract: Objective Horseshoe anal fistula is a common anorectal disease, and there is no standard procedure for its treatment. In this study, we performed a modified surgical procedure for the treatment of horseshoe anal fistula and investigated its efficacy and adverse effects. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of video-assisted anal fistula treatment combined with an anal fistula plug (VAAFT-Plug) in 26 patients with a horseshoe anal fistula. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 18 months. Preoperativ… Show more

“…Fistulotomy is the most common procedure performed for anal fistulas but fistulotomy is contraindicated in complex fistulas as the risk of sphincter injury is high[ 2 ]. Therefore, several new sphincter-sparing procedures have been developed over the last two decades like video-assisted anal fistula treatment (VAAFT)[ 3 - 7 ], anal fistula plug (AFP)[ 8 , 9 ], over the scope clip (OTSC)[ 10 - 12 ], fistula laser treatment (FiLac)[ 2 ], stem cells[ 13 , 14 ], fixcision[ 15 ], fibrin glue[ 16 - 18 ], ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT)[ 19 - 25 ], Bio-LIFT[ 26 ] and transanal opening of intersphincteric space (TROPIS)[ 27 - 31 ].…”

“…Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is widely used in many fields including electroplating, organic synthesis, leather tanning, textile dying, printing, steel manufacturing, etc. [1][2][3] However, Cr(VI) exhibits highly harmful, teratogenic, and potentially carcinogenic effects on living systems. Low concentrations of Cr(VI) may contribute to kidney failure and rhinitis.…”

“…To date, various approaches have been developed for sensing Cr(VI), [3] such as atomic absorption spectrum, [8] inductively coupled plasma mass spectrum (ICP-MS), [9] electrochemical methods, [10,11] ion chromatography, [12] colorimetry, [13] fluorescence, [6,14] and so on. Among these detection strategies, these traditional instrumental methods suffer from complicated operation and high costs.…”
