Drought and decrease in the level of lakes in recent years due to global warming and excessive use of water resources feeding lakes is of great importance and this research has provided a structure to investigate this issue. First, the information required for simulating lake drought is provided with strong references and necessary assumptions. Entity-Component-System (ECS) structure has been used for simulation which can consider assumptions flexibly in simulation. Three major users (i.e., Industry, agriculture, and Domestic users) consume water from ground water and surface water (i.e., streams, rivers and lakes). Lake Mead has been considered for simulation, and the information necessary to investigate its drought has also been provided. The results are presented in the form of scenario-based design and optimal strategy selection. For optimal strategy selection a deep reinforcement algorithm is developed to select the best set of strategies among all possible projects. These results can provide a better view of how to plan to prevent lake drought.

High-fidelity models capable of accurately predicting ship motion are critical for promoting innovation and efficiency in the maritime industry. However, creating an advanced model that comprehensively represents the system and its interaction with dynamic environments has always been challenging. Many models provide partial knowledge about a system. To handle the deficiency and improve model fidelity, we propose a hybrid modeling methodology, in which prior knowledge describing the ship dynamic effects is incorporated into a data-driven calibrator, yielding a representative model with high predictive capability. Enabled by the integration of model estimated ship states into the calibrator, the informative information could be interpreted and carried forward. Simulation and full-scale experiments are conducted on the research vessel Gunnerus to exemplify the concept. A best available numerical model and a neural network are prepared to be the foundation and calibrator, respectively. Experiment results show that the cooperative model greatly improves the predictive capability of the research vessel. From the ship modeling perspective, this study provides new insights by bridging the gap between two separate domains: model-based and data-driven.

Onboard sensors contribute to data-driven understanding of complex and nonlinear ship dynamics in real time. By using sensors, precise ship trajectory prediction plays a key role in intelligent collision avoidance. A hybrid predictor makes prediction based on a mathematical model of which error is compensated by a black-box model. A Multiple-output Hybrid Predictor (MHP), which makes a long-horizon prediction at a time based on onboard sensor data, was developed in the previous study. However, it can not handle a time series of future command assumption. This limitation hinders an MHP from being applied to the evaluation of future command assumption in the predictive decision making. A novel architecture of MHP presented in this study converts a long time series of future command assumption into a fixed-length model-based-predicted vessel state; then, it is included in inputs of a black-box error compensator. This idea is robust to multidimensionality of commands and long control horizon. Assuming a low-fidelity vessel model and a limited data are available, simulation experiments are conducted. The effect of environmental disturbances and maneuverings on the prediction performance is examined comprehensively for the first time. The present study successfully incorporates a long time series of future command assumption in an MHP. It reduces the mean error by 81.8% compared to a model-based predictor and by 45.6% compared to a data-driven predictor under Beaufort wind force scale 4 wave, wind, and ocean current. Present study expands the application of MHP to the predictive decision making of future autonomous ships.
