Vibrational spectroscopy of biological molecules: halocompound/nucleic acid component interactions

Abstract: Organohalogen compounds play a crucial role in cancer induction due to the ability of some electrophilic species produced in their enzymatic oxidative metabolism to damage DNA. Vibrational Ft-jr spectra showing the molecular interactions between chioroacetaldehyde, metabolite of 1,2 dichioroethane, and adenosine and cytidine leading to the tautomeric iminic forms are reported and discussed.
