Vibrational resonance in feedforward network

Abstract: This paper investigates vibrational resonance in multi-layer feedforward network (FFN) based on FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neuron model. High-frequency stimuli can improve the input-output linearity of firing rates, especially for the inputs with low firing rate. For FFN network, it is found that high-frequency disturbances play important roles in enhancing the propagation of weak signal through layers. Synfire-enhanced phenomenon of signal propagation is also observed in multi-layers network, when the signal trans… Show more

“…A comprehensive analytical procedure on VR of bistable Duffing oscillator which established its effective stiffness was carried out by Blekhman and Landa 11 and generalized in a book by Blekhman 12 . Since then, vibrational resonance has attracted a lot of attentions in bistable systems 2,11,13 , multistable systems [14][15][16] , excitable systems 17 , ratchets 18 , quintic oscillators 19 , overdamped systems 2,15,18 , coupled oscillators 15,20 , delayed systems 15,[20][21][22] , assymetric Duffing oscillators 23 , fractional order damped oscillators 24 , feedback networks 25 , neuron models 17,[26][27][28] , synthetic gene network 29 and biological nonlinear maps 30 . Moreover, experimental evidences of vibrational resonance has also been reported, notably in bistable and multistable verticalcavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) 13,16,31 .…”

“…In what follows, we will focus on a form of vibrational resonance (VR). In systems with linear damping, VR has already been widely investigated [38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45] following an early study by Landa and McClintock [36]. The results have shed light on the contributions to the effective potential of the various components of the high frequency signal [27], as well as the roles played by system parameters such as delay and fractional order terms in the induction, enhancement and control of VR [46][47][48][48][49][50][51].…”
