Vibrational behavior of matrix‐isolated ions in Tutton compounds IV. Infrared spectroscopic study of NH4+ and SO42‐ ions included in nickel sulfates and selenates

Abstract: The spectroscopic experiments reveal that the SO 4 2-guest ions are weaker distorted in the selenate matrices as compared to the same ions in the neat sulfates due to the larger unit-cell volumes of the selenate compounds. The band positions of the water librations in the host potassium compounds are affected by the included ammonium cations. The formation of hydrogen bonds between the NH 4 + guest ions and the XO 4 2-host ions leads to a decrease in the proton acceptor capabilities of the anions and as a resu… Show more

“…The Tutton salts were obtained by crystallization from the saturated solutions according to the solubility in the respective three-component systems (for more details see Refs. [24][25][26][27][28]). The samples containing included SO 4 2À and NH 4 + ions were prepared using the same crystallization procedure in the presence of guest ions.…”

“…The crystal structures of Cs 2 M(XO 4 ) 2 •6H 2 O (M = Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn; X = S, Se) determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data are described in [1,2]. As The present paper continues our infrared spectroscopic investigations of Tutton compounds [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. In previous papers the vibrational behavior of SO 4 2ions incorporated in the crystals of M' 2 M''(SeO 4 ) 2 6H 2 O (M' = K, NH 4 + , Rb; M'' = Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) is reported.…”

The influence of different crystal chemical factors and the metal ion nature on the extent of energetic distortion of matrix-isolated sulfate ions was analyzed [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Special attention has been paid on infrared spectra of NH 4 + ions included in the crystals of K 2 M(XO 4 ) 2 6H 2 O (M = Mg, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn; X = S, Se) [3][4][5][6][7].…”
