Vibration Analysis of a 3- Phase Model Transformer Core

Abstract: Noise produced by a transformer core has been reduced by improving material and design of the, core. Further reduction is required for the trend toward amenity. The comprehension of the mechanism producing noise is necessary and one of the measures is detail investigation of core vibration. We developed the vibration measuring system utilizing a laser Doppler vibration meter and we measured the vibration of a 3-phase 3-limb transformer core. The vibration on the front and the back of the core was two or three … Show more

“…Furthermore, excitation current itself will rise caused by such flux saturation and consequently winding current will increase This in turn increases electromagnetic force acting on the two adjacent sections of core seam as well as magnetostriction rate. Ultimately, transformer vibration arises and is intensified for such reasons as mentioned [21].…”

“…With the continuous development of China's industry and the increasing improvement of people's living standards, people in daily life not only have a stronger dependence on the demand for electricity, but also put forward higher requirements for the vibration and noise pollution caused by the transformer which can adjust the voltage level. The vibration of transformer body (winding, core, oil tank) and cooling device is the source of noise, and the vibration of core is mainly caused by magnetostriction of silicon steel sheet during operation.Under the action of stress, the main domain and sub domain in silicon steel sheet will be deformed, which will change the magnetic properties and magnetostrictive properties, resulting in the increase of core vibration and noise [1][2][3].…”

“…The discussed methods are more and more commonly used in relation to transformers, in particular in relation to step-up transformers and high power mains transformers. In conjunction with other diagnostic methods they can provide information on the technical condition of the structure of mechanical parts and the condition of the main insulation of the transformer ( Bartolettti et al, 2004;Mizokami et al, 1997;Shengchang et al, 2006;Leonard et al, 2000).…”
