Viability of soybean seed produced under different agro-meteorological conditions in Vojvodina

Abstract: At the time of soybean seed sowing in the field, a high soil moisture, low soil and air temperatures, and crasts formation may occur, which can lead to slow germination, poor seedling establishment, and in some cases to loss of seed vigor. Due to the importance and prevalence of soybean the aim of this study was to determine the quality and seed viability of different genotypes produced at three locations in Vojvodina during 2009 and 2010. Eight soybean varieties (Afrodita, Valjevka, Balkan, Novosadjanka… Show more

“…During their growth crop plants are usually exposed to different environmental stresses which may limit their growth and productivity (MOUD and MAGSHOUDI, 2008;VUJAKOVIĆ et al, 2011). Salinity and drought are major environmental factors limiting plant growth and productivity, causing great economic losses (JOVIČIĆ et al, 2014).…”

“…During their growth, crops are usually exposed to different environmental stresses which may limit growth and productivity (Vujaković et al 2011). It has long been known that seed exposed to unfavourable environmental conditions, like drought, germinate with difficulty (Petrović et al 2016).…”

“…High quality seed is the key factor in commercial seed production (Sečanski et al, 2015). Although seed vigour is very important parameter of seed quality (Milivojević, 2016;Milivojević et al, 2017), germination of a seed lot is essential for seed trade (Vujaković et al, 2011). Therefore germination testing has been part of the ISTA Rules from the very beginning.…”
