Veterinary medicine

Abstract: In antiquity, specialist practitioners existed for horses and mules, animals of extreme importance for ancient society, economy, and warfare. A sizeable body of writings both in Greek and Latin dealing with their treatment survives from late antiquity. The health of farm animals received less specialized attention and was addressed in agricultural treatises, while works on dogs and falcons only survive from the Middle Ages.
