Vertical Farming - An Overview

Abstract: The land has become an expensive unit in India due to its diversion following urbanization, industrialization etc. Further, migration and settlement of rural people in urban areas has been increasing at an alarming rate. As the world's population continues to grow at an exponential rate, fundamental changes are expected to occur over the next 50 years, by 2050, the world's population is expected to reach 9 billion people, with cities hosting roughly 80% of this population. Furthermore, 80 percent of the total … Show more

“…Vertical farming also enhances food security by providing consistent yields year-round, independent of weather conditions [19]. Furthermore, vertical farming can contribute to local food resilience by shortening supply chains and reducing reliance on longdistance transportation [20][21][22][23][24][25].…”

“…The implementation of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), which entails precisely regulating environmental elements like temperature, humidity, and light to generate ideal conditions for plant development, complements this spatial efficiency. To increase productivity and efficiency per square foot, vertical farming involves growing and producing ~ 309 ~ crops and plants on surfaces that are vertically inclined and layered (Barui et al, 2022) [6] . Production-related variables like temperature, lighting, fertilizers, watering, and air circulation are continuously monitored and modified.…”
