Versatile Photoelectrochemical Biosensing for Hg2+ and Aflatoxin B1 Based on Enhanced Photocurrent of AgInS2 Quantum Dot–DNA Nanowires Sensitizing NPC–ZnO Nanopolyhedra

Abstract: Eliminating false positives or negatives in analysis has been a challenge. Herein, a phenomenon of polarity-switching photocurrent of AgInS2 quantum dot (QD)–DNA nanowires reversing nitrogen-doped porous carbon–ZnO (NPC–ZnO) nanopolyhedra was found for the first time, and a versatile photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor with a reversed signal was innovatively proposed for dual-target detection. NPC–ZnO is a photoactive material with excellent PEC properties, while AgInS2 QDs as a photosensitive material match … Show more

“…4,5 PEC sensors have been extensively applied in the detection of disease-related biomarkers (proteins and nucleic acids), 4,6,7 small molecules, 8 and metal ions. 9 Generally, the sensitivity of the PEC sensors highly depends on the photoelectric (PE) response of photoactive materials. Many Bi-containing semiconductors are used as photoanode materials.…”

“…DNA is now widely applied to construct micro/nanoarchitectures as a generic polymeric material by dint of Watson–Crick base-pairing, such as DNA tetrahedrons, DNA origami, DNA nanowires, and so on. These nanostructures have excellent structural rigidity and programmable reaction sites.…”

“…[6][7][8][9][10] In particular, photoelectrochemical (PEC) analysis as a new and fast developing method has shown great application potential for Hg 2+ detection because of its simple equipment, fast response, low detection limit, and low background. [11][12][13] Thus, it is interesting to develop a new method for PEC detection of Hg 2+ .…”
