Potato is considered strategic vegetable crop in the entire world. So, two field experiments were conducted in the experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University to study the effect of organic fertilization and foliar application with potassium (K) as well as rates of K soil fertilization and their interaction on vegetative growth (plant height, No of leaves/plant, fresh and dry weight), leaves chemical composition (Chlorophyll a, b, a+b, N, P and K), tuber yield (plant yield, No. of tuber/plant and total tuber yield) and its quality (TSS, reducing, non reducing, total sugar, vitamin C, starch and protein). The experiment was conducted in strip split plot design including 12 treatments i.e. 2 organic applications (compost and vermicompost), 2 foliar applications (tap water as a control and K at 2%) and three rates of K soil applications (120, 165 and 214 kg K 2 O/hectare). The obtained results clarified that using compost and foliar application with K at 2% as well 165 kg K 2 O/ha significantly increased leaves chemical contents and tuber quality, while using vermicompost and foliar application with K at 2% plus 165 kg K 2 O/ha gave the highest values of potato growth parameters and yield. Thus, it can be recommended that using compost or vermicompost at 9.5 and 7 ton/ ha and foliar application with K at 2% as well 165 kg K 2 O/ha that gave the highest net return and improve quality of potato tubers.

In Bangladesh, potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) lacks optimum quality for export or processing industries. Optimum utilization of specific plant nutrients can improve quality. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the best dose(s) of phosphorus in combination with potassium sources as they affect potato tuber quality. The experiment consisted the factors: phosphorus dose(4); P1 = 200 kg ha-1 TSP @ 42.55 kg ha-1 P; P2 = 220 kg ha-1 TSP @ 46.81 kg ha-1 P, P3 = 240 kg ha-1 TSP @ 51.06 kg ha-1 P and P4 = 260 kg ha-1 TSP @ 55.32 kg ha-1 P, and potassium sources (3); K1= KCl (250 kg ha-1 KCl @130 kg ha-1 K), K2 = KH2PO4 (452.19 kg ha-1 KH2PO4 @130 kg ha-1 K) and K3 = K2SO4 (288.6 kg ha-1 K2SO4 @130 kg ha-1 K). The interaction of phosphorus doses and potassium sources affected most parameters studied. The highest yield (35.35 t ha-1), caned (10.35 t ha-1), chips (28.06 t ha-1), and French fry (0.367 t ha-1) were from P3K2, P4K2, P3K2, P3K1 respectively; the lowest yield (30.90 t ha-1), caned (5.59 t ha-1) and chips (20.01 t ha-1) were from P1K3, P4K1, P1K3 respectively. The highest dry matter (22.85%), starch (17.936%), antioxidant (630.12 Trolox μMol/100 g FW), and polyphenol (92.994 GA mg/100 g FW) were from P1K3; the lowest reducing sugar (0.1713 mg g-1 FW) and non-reducing sugar (0.3290 mg g-1 FW) were from P1K3. It appeared that 200 kg ha-1 TSP @ 42.55 kg ha-1 P as a dose of phosphorus and K2SO4 as sources of potassium may be a suitable combination to produce export and processing quality potato. SAARC J. Gradding of potato tuber for different processing purposes may reduce the main constraints of establishing export industry in Bangladesh. From this perspective the experiment was conducted to assess the effect of potassium sources and vermicompost level on yield and grading of potato tuber. The potato tuber of variety BARI Alu-25 (Asterix) was used as the planting material for this experiment. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: 3 sources of Potassium such as-K 1 : KCl, K 2 : KNO 3 , K 3 : K 2 SO 4 ; Factor B: 4 levels of vermicompost such as-Vm 0 : 0 t ha -1 , Vm 1 : 4 t ha -1 , Vm 2 : 8 t ha -1 and Vm 3 : 12 t ha -1 . The two factor experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications. The highest yield of potato tubers (27.86 t ha -1 ) was recorded from K 2 SO 4 , whereas, the lowest (26.02 t ha -1 ) was found from KNO 3 . The number of tubers hill -1 , average tuber weight, yield and different categories of potato tuber were increased with the increasing of vermicompost level.
